The Kids Are Kicking Out The Klassics
VERDUGO YOUNG MUSICIANS ASSOCIATION TO PERFORM AT BENEFIT EVENT
The Verdugo Young Musicians Association (VYMA) works to transform young lives through music, using both free and tuition-based after-school high-level music education programs where young musicians discover the dedication, teamwork and joy of making music together while enhancing their musical skills and creating pathways to success and self-esteem. VYMA’s hallmark is its nurturing, non-competitive ensemble setting and excellent faculty of professional, performing musicians who serve as conductors, teaching artists and mentors.
Lindsey Hansen, the group’s Program Coordinator, said, when invited to provide classical music for the Talk About Parenting with Shirlee Smith, non-profit organization’s benefit event, Mother’s Behind Bars: The Parent Puzzle, that the young musicians were very excited to have been afforded such an opportunity.
Amy and Brian Chan, Grant Hilllburn, Daniel Mariscal, Chellie and Krish Nayar and Issac Roberts are the young musicians who have been selected for this debut performance.
In selecting the group, we wanted to showcase youth and at the same provide attendees with music that complements the tranquil setting at Hillsides, where the event is being held.
California State Senator, Carol Liu and Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, fifth district, are among the program speakers.
The Honorable Marguerite D. Downing, Judge Los Angeles Superior Court, Dependency Division will receive the organization’s Humanitarian Award.
Jaylene Moseley, President, Flintiridge Center has been named event Honorary Chairperson.
Mothers Behind Bars: The Parent Puzzle, Sunday, October 27, 3-5 p.m. at Hillsides, 940 Avenue 64, in Pasadena will raise funds to support our non- profit organization’s Parent Puzzle classes at California Institution for Women (CIW) in Chino.
