WHAT IF MOM GOT PAID FOR BEING A MOM?
According to a study by Salary.com, if a stay-at-home mom could be compensated in dollars rather than personal satisfaction and unconditional love, she'd be making nearly $117,000 annually.
The study compared a mom's market value to the pay levels for 10 job titles with duties performed by typical mothers, including housekeeper, teacher, psychologist and chief executive. The biggest driver of a mother's theoretical pay is the overtime pay she would receive. Of the 18,000 mothers surveyed, it was reported that the typical work week for the stay-at-home moms average 94.4 hours, while the mothers who worked outside the home average 54.6 hours on top of the hours they spent at their paying jobs. This year, this translates to an average annual pay of $116,805 for stay-at-home moms and $68,405 (motherly duties only) for a mom who juggles an outside job.

THE COST OF KIDS BEING GLUED TO THE TELEVISION
A look at the kids in today's society reveals that they aren't stepping away from the television to get more exercise. Getting kids to cut down on television watching and moving more of their limbs can dramatically reduce their risk of being over-weight. The American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that boys take at least 11,000 steps per day, girls 13,000 steps per day, and total screen time should be limited to two hours per day. Seems reasonable? However, it's apparently still a herculean task for the kids to do and parents to enforce.

PEW RESEARCH CENTER CHARTS MONEY WOES
Middle Class Americans say they don't see progress over the last five years due to tight money and ever growing debts. 31% in the survey said they were worse off and one in four said there had been NO improvement. 53% of this group had to cut their spending.
Who's middle class? According to this report, it is the 53% of adults in the country who call themselves this with their incomes ranging from below $40,000 to more than $100,000.
Pretty wide range, here. But we do get the picture - folks across the board ain't doing too good on the money tree.

PASSPORT AND CHILD SUPPORT
If parents owe more than $2,500 in back support, the State Department will reject their passport application. This is part of the federal commitment to help states enforce child support obligations, said Ann Barrett, deputy assistant secretary of state for Passport Services. The help is needed: In August, 4.3 million parents owed back child support, averaging $19,300 each, Barrett said. That adds up to $83.4 billion. That's billion of tax dollars the rest of us have to pay due to the lack of responsibilities on the part of the non-custodial parent.
